jComponents: Goodbye.

I've been catching some grief, both publicly and over personal e-mail, for my 404ing of the jComponents custom tags. While I do apologize for the way I've just let those e-mails sit in a bucket for a while, I don't really appreciate some of their contents.

Use of the component set was free, was a support nightmare (I get 10+ e-mails a week, most of which are from people who FTP encoded CF files in ASCII mode), nobody was buying it (the source wasn't free, remember?), and it wasn't all that good in the first place.

If you're looking for what they provided (tabs, trees, etc.), I'd strongly suggest you check into CFMX7 or Flex 2. They provide much cleaner, extensible, standardized implementations.

I'm sorry if this comes of as crass, but seriously - it doesn't help those of us who do contribute to the community when we wake up to anonymously sent complaints about our contribution.

CFDJ Readers' Choice: Vote Indie!

The jComponents wound up nominated for a CFDJ Reader's Choice awards! They're the only product in their category from an individual (me!) instead of a company. They're holding their own in 4th place, and I need your help! If you've used them and liked them, please go vote for them at http://sys-con.com/mx/readerschoice2004/index.cfm.

jSelect Preview: Live from Texas

I'm on the road in Texas and have a little time to kill, so I've worked a little bit on the next jComponent. The jSelect is a GMail-inspired select / combo / autocomplete box. It's still got layout flaws, but the central logic is there, and I wanted to share it and ask for feedback. If you're interested, please take a look at it at http://clearsoftware.net/client/jComponentsJSelectPreview.cfm and leave a comment or e-mail me.

jComponents: #1 Rated, with new tags coming!

The Macromedia ColdFusion Exchange has jComponents as #1 user rated under Custom Tags > User Interface, standing at #3 overall! Also, there are two new tags coming: a query-driven GMail style autocomplete / combo box, and a DHTML menu. Woot.

Find out more about the jComponents tags.

jComponents: jTree HREF Documentation Error

A user let me know they were having trouble getting the HREF attribute of the jTreeLink tag to work. This makes sense: there is no HREF attribute. There was at one time, back at 0.7 or so, but I pulled it out. I'll be putting up a new build Friday or Saturday with corrected documentation and examples.

It may seem awkward, but it made more aesthetic sense nix the HREF attribute and pass all interaction with the jTree through its event handler. To do what the HREF attribute was supposed to do, just define an onChange function, examine the data of the clicked jTreeLink / jTreeNode, and document.replace() your way to it.

The new build will contain an example of doing this, as well as how to do it while passing along tree state.
