2008 Talks (and the Model-Glue show!)
I've been putting together my list of talks I'll be giving this year, and it looks like I'll be spending a lot of time in Keynote in the upcoming months!
As I (and others!) develop Model-Glue 3, I'll be doing a series of talks on Model-Glue 3. We'll preview new features, new workflow, and (of course), we'll rip the hood off the new architecture and take a look at the revamped engine.
So far, here's where I'll be, when I'll be there, and what I'll be talking about. If you see a topic you'd like presented at your CFUG (via Breeze) or within your company, please let me know.
Using ColdFusion with Hibernate
Jan 10 2008 - Southeast Minnesota CFUG
Saving object instances to and from a database is often a tedious chore: the SQL is simple, but there's a lot of it, and it's repetitive. To help out, Object Relational Mapping (ORM) frameworks aim to do 90% of the work for you. While many ColdFusion developers are familiar with Transfer and Reactor, not many have explored Hibernate, an industry-standard ORM for Java. We'll be taking a look at how it's easy to begin using Hibernate from ColdFusion with or without having to model your application with Java classes.
Model-Glue 3: Gesture!
Feb 10 2008 - Alagad's Enterprise ColdFusion with Model-Glue Training
This first semi-public showing of the Model-Glue 3: Gesture presentation will take a look at how applications are now more modular in nature, workflow is being simplified, and a few great new features that stick to the "simple is more gooder" theme of Model-Glue 1.0. Attendance is limited to those taking the Alagad class.
MVC for You and Me
May 1-4 2008 - cf.Objective()
Model-View-Controller is an industry standard architectural pattern for building applications with user interfaces. By decoupling business logic from user interface code, Model-View-Controller allows developers to build applications with techniques that are more flexible, testable, and ready for inevitable change.????????? In this session, we'll dive into what Model-View-Controller is and its relationship to ColdFusion development.
Model-Glue: Beyond the Quickstart
May 1-4 2008 - cf.Objective()
As part of the Model-Glue 3 roadshow, I'll be doing a deeper dive into the guts of Model-Glue 3 at cf.Objective(), as it's got a more engineering focus than other venues. We'll look at code-based examples of safely modifying the framework via ColdSpring, building applications out of reusable modules, test-driven development, and sharing a service-oriented architecture between Model-Glue and Flex applications.
Model-Glue 3: Gesture!
June 4-6 2008 - Scotch on the Rocks
By June, Model-Glue 3 is likely to be in a public state. We'll be looking at features, real-world uses of the new internal architectures, and how automated workflow makes developing either procedural or OO Model-View-Controller applications an absolute breeze.
Model-View-Controller: From ColdFusion to Flex
June 25-28 - CFUnited
Model-View-Controller is a fundamental design pattern that's been popularized in the ColdFusion community by frameworks such as Model-Glue, Mach-ii, and Fusebox. In this session, we'll explore how to build ColdFusion-powered Flex applications using Model-View-Controller, discovering that it's even easier to do in ActionScript 3. We won't even use a framework!
Model-Glue 3: Gesture!
June 25-28 - CFUnited
Model-Glue has had a history of version releases coinciding with the CFUnited conference. Maybe "Gesture" will show up as an official 3.0?

Those lucky bunch getting a sneak peak at the Alagad Model-Glue training have me a bit jealous, I'll admit.
