In July 2008, Bill Gates will cease to be an employee of Microsoft. He will remain as chairman of the board (an owner). The only thing I have to say is that I'd love to see the Vegas odds on which will happen first: his departure, or Vista shipping.

Amen to that. Can't wait to read the parellels, both false and true (at least, as far as we know).

we are just setting up for our cfug tonight and those odds were totally tossed around.

I guess there was a slashdot article today that points out vista may never shit(p) :)

"...odds on which will happen first: his departure, or Vista shipping." That's a good laugh. :)

I think Vista's supposed to be RTM late this year, but I'm with you. I'll believe it when I see it.

This is a test to see how the stock market will respond. Even Bill get's old, haven't you guys been watching? (And who knows... health issues and stuff like that could be coming in to play here.) Don't count out the possibility. He has foundations and other pursuits outside of Microsoft. Maybe this is a sign that they realize they are about to start loosing market share or profitability after all these years. If he resigns then it keeps him looking sweet. And it gives MS an excuse to tell the stock holders hang on as we transition.
